Malaria – Clinical Case 1

A 45-year-old man, previously fit and well, is brought to the Emergency Department with a low GCS. Ambulance crew reported that he was found in his bed unresponsive by his family members. The family reported that for the past few days, he has been complaining of a headache, myalgia, fever and has been under the weather.

On arrival to resus, his GCS is 9 (E2V2M5) with a temperature of 39oC. The patient is intubated and managed in the ITU. On further questioning, his family reports that he recently returned from a trip to Nigeria.
