Hyperemesis Gravidarum – Clinical Case 2

Faith is 29 years old and 15 weeks pregnant in her third pregnancy. She has presented with two days of severe nausea and vomiting and has been unable to keep anything down for the past 12 hours. She reports she has never had anything like this in previous pregnancies.

At triage, her observations were:

  • HR 92
  • BP 112/74
  • RR 16
  • SpO2 97% on room air
  • Temp 37.8C

Bloods have been sent for FBC, U+Es, Amylase. VBG was normal and BM 4.8mmol/L

She was unable to provide a urine specimen at triage.

She is normally fit and well. Her only medication is a pregnancy multivitamin. She has NKDA.
