Complex ophthalmic investigations are outside the remit of this session and are often unavailable in the ED. However, basic observations and investigations should be performed in all patients presenting with visual loss.

Which of the following should be included in your investigations?
- Baseline observations including temperature, pulse, blood pressure
- MRI brain to exclude optic neuritis
- Capillary blood glucose testing
- Inflammatory markers such as ESR/CRP and baseline white cell count if ischaemic optic neuropathy is considered at any stage
