Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP) – Clinical Case 1

John, a 42-year-old male, attends the ED with sudden and persistent gum bleeding that ongoing for the past hour. He reports a week of easy bruising and pinpoint red spots on his arms and legs. He denies any recent infections, trauma, or medication use.

On examination he is afebrile, and his vital signs are normal. He has no lymphadenopathy or hepatosplenomegaly. Petechiae is noted on his limbs. He has no current infective symptoms. You are concerned John has ITP.
