MHA Introductory Case Part 1

A 72-year-old lady, Adele, is brought in to the ED by ambulance, having had a fall at home.

Adele told a neighbour that she had hurt her wrist when she fell earlier in the day and the neighbour called an ambulance.

The ambulance crew tell you that Adele had been very reluctant to come with them in spite of clearly experiencing pain from her wrist.  They had done a set of physical observations in Adele’s home; all of these were in normal range.

You go to see her and she immediately tells you that that the ambulance crew made her come against her will and that she intends to return home at once.

What should you do first?
