Haematomas may be significant in size, particularly with those on anticoagulants, and may warrant discussion regarding specific treatments with haematology.
Ultrasound will have an important role in the assessment of these patients as haematomas will be difficult to localise as well as documenting state of blood flow to and from the region. However, early surgical referral is warranted in most cases for exploration, to identify the exact pathology and evacuation of haematoma.
