A 20-year-old tennis player presents to the minor end of the ED with pain and reduced range of movement in her right shoulder.
She has noticed that over the past few months serving has become increasingly difficult due to pain in the shoulder, which comes on during exercise and is relieved by rest.
She also reports a number of episodes of paraesthesia over the right scapula. She denies any trauma to the shoulder or arm.
On examination, the patient had reduced abduction and external rotation of the right shoulder, and some atrophy of the infraspinatus muscle when compared with the left.
You suspect that this is a case of suprascapular nerve entrapment. The patient is a county level tennis player, and wants to know what treatment options there are and whether she is likely to make a full recovery.
