Paddle position in resistant VF
Correct defibrillation paddle position is important. Alternative positions are unevaluated rather than unproven.
The default position is one below the right clavicle and the other in the V6 position in the midaxillary line, as shown in the image.
Scenarios to consider when positioning the pads:
- Refractory VF, consider changing pad position to anterior-posterior and check contact
- Patients with an implantable device, place the pad >8cm away from the device or use alternative position
- Prone patients consider using the bi-axillary pad position.
