Definition of Aortic Injury
Consider carefully in rapid deceleration injuries – road traffic accidents and falls. Missing the diagnosis clinically and on CXR is quite possible.
The few patients—about 10%—who make it alive to the ED will have haemorrhage tamponaded by aortic adventitia (a vulnerable pseudo-aneurysm).
