Triggered assessment

Triggered assessment is the means by which competency is measured, and the trainee signed off. It is akin to the driving test in that the exact amount of experience is not the issue, but whether safe practice can be demonstrated.

Scope of competency

The training process for core skills covers ultrasound use in adults and children.

Workplace assessment and examination

As a workplace assessment, it removes the need for formal examination as part of the RCEM exit exam. The document required for this, and other EMUS documents can be found at RCEM Specialised Skills Training. A link to this resource is located in the Web resources section of this session.

Trainer’s qualifications

A trainer for the purposes of core skills training in EMUS can be:

• A Level 2 practitioner
• A Level 1 practitioner with a minimum of six months practice
