A 15-year-old girl accompanied by her friend, presents to paediatric Emergency Department (ED) with dysuria and pain in the vagina.
She completed a course of nitrofurantoin for UTI, prescribed by her GP 3 weeks ago. No significant past medical history is identified. She goes to school and lives with her mum.
On examination, she is alert and oriented, and her observations are stable. She is provided with a pot for a urine sample. The triage nurse informs you that she is not accompanied by an adult and she is reluctant to call her family.
