A 76-year-old with poorly controlled type II diabetes and CKD, presented with a painful left ear and discharge. She had been treated with topical antibiotics from her GP for the preceding 7 days for otitis externa. She attends your ED with worsening pain. On examination there is evidence of purulent discharge, there is left sided facial weakness affecting the whole face and hearing loss.
