An 8-year-old girl is brought to the Emergency Department (ED) by her mother after having fallen from a climbing frame. She is inconsolable and protectively holding her left arm. It is visibly swollen around the elbow but you are unable to examine it any further as she is too distressed. Her mother tells you she fell onto an outstretched hand 20 minutes ago and has been screaming since, saying it hurts a lot.
The triage nurse has been unable to obtain any observations but has weighed the child at 25kg.
