Before bedtime, 3 children were playing with matchsticks in their upstairs bedroom. They had made a tent earlier that evening using their bed linen and were inside, surrounded by their cuddly toys. A match was lit and quickly spread onto their flammable pyjamas, soft toys and bed linen.

They each sustained a combination of partial thickness and full thickness burns.

The PHEM team called to alert your ED that these children will be arriving to your resuscitation room.

Soon after the trauma call team assess the children, it is decided that the 6-year-old child requires an escharotomy and her 5-year-old sister requires a fasciotomy.
