Probe Orientation

probe
A standard orientation is used when looking at, and, storing images so that anyone reviewing the images is able to identify the view. Most probes have a notch. The notch represents the green dot on the screen and it is good practice to identify this (sometimes tapping on the probe is valuable to confirm setting).

Standard orientation always has the notch to the patient’s head or the patient’s right. This image shows the probe with the index finger on the notch.

Synonyms for notch are knob / marker / bar / pointer. Some new probes will have these on both sides. If so, tap your finger on the probe and see which side of the screen you see it. Green dot should be on the left side of the screen.
