Reflective interfaces that are curved may not be demonstrated clearly, as the reflected pulse is directed away from the transducer. It may be necessary to scan from a different angle.
The 1st image below, shows a curved reflective interface.
The 2nd image below shows shadowing distal to the lateral walls of the aorta (arrowed).
The 3rd image below shows that as the reflected pulse is directed deep into the patient, no useful information is gained from this region. Note the anechoic nature of the blood within the aorta.
