A 25-year-old man with no significant past medical history presents to the Emergency Department (ED) with his wife complaining of vomiting and diarrhoea.
He has had one episode of vomiting after eating a ready meal and prepacked salad. When examining his vomit, he noted the partially digested contents of his food, with no blood, bile or mucous. He was also very surprised to notice a live moving object that he thought was a worm and has brought it in with him. He also had a single episode of diarrhoea, with no blood or mucus noted. He has ongoing nausea, but no other symptoms.
His wife has had similar symptoms, but denies any ‘worms’ in her vomit or stool. There is no history of foreign travel in the recent past.
He is very worried, but feels well. How would you manage the case?
