This module covers the assessment and management of patients with acute liver failure.
After completing this session you will be able to:
- Define acute liver failure and describe its pathophysiology
- Elicit the likely cause of acute liver failure in a patient presenting to the emergency department (ED)
- Assess the risk of morbidity and mortality in a patient presenting to the emergency department with acute liver failure.
- Order and interpret appropriate laboratory tests and imaging in patients with suspected acute liver failure.
- Institute appropriate management within the emergency department and describe the ongoing critical care management of a patient with acute liver failure.
