Whilst working in a major trauma centre overnight you are called to attend a paediatric trauma call.

Fire-fighters used fire escape hoods to rescue a father and his 4-year-old child when their house caught fire.

Their clothes had caught on fire, causing partial thickness (second degree) burns.

Due to the thick smoke, the father and child were initially unable to safely leave the property. The Fire brigade’s 999 control officers gave the father and child fire survival guidance, which included telling them to lie on the ground to get cleaner air as the smoke was rising upwards.
