A 28-year-old, right hand dominant male sustained an injury to his left hand after falling from his bicycle. He noticed immediate pain and swelling to his left hand and presented to the A&E department. Clinical examination showed marked splaying of the 4th and 5th digit, as well as significant swelling. Sensation was intact in the median and ulnar nerve distributions. There was bony tenderness over the 3th, 4th and 5th metacarpal bones. You decide to make routine X-rays of his left hand.
